Move Over ZIRP, Welcome NIRP

The Fed has maintained a Zero Interest Rate Policy (ZIRP) since the financial crisis of 2008, and the European Central Bank (ECB) recently announced a Negative Interest Rate Policy (NIRP). The goal of NIRP is nearly identical to ZIRP in that it is designed to spur economic activity by incentivizing banks to loan super cheap money to consumers and businesses.
